Community Contribution 3: Inclusive Design

Hi Catriona. I enjoyed reading your post. I thought your idea of including an in-person lecture and live stream Zoom session was an excellent way to involve everyone, especially when it is difficult to come to class. I also find it helpful when teachers post lecture recordings to review class material again. I find that watching lectures twice helps me better understanding of the material, especially when there is an option to add subtitles or stop the recording to take notes. This would also allow students who have hearing loss to attend lectures. I also really like your idea of having different teaching styles because each student has a different learning style, so one teaching style may not work for one student but work better for another. Another way my group is integrating inclusive education is by providing interactive digital tools like Edpuzzle and Kahoot to create an online learning environment almost mimicking an in-person classroom. Thank you for sharing!

Hi Natalie. I found your post an interesting read. I like the idea of offering office hours outside the classroom to help students with their learning challenges. I find this the best way to address issues since you get an automatic response rather than sending an email and waiting for an answer. You also mention video tutorials to learn how to access classroom material, which I think is a great idea. I also believe recorded lectures would be great since students who cannot make it to class can watch after, and students who attend that want to review the lecture can watch again. Thank you for sharing!
